The Secret History of Wonder Woman by Jill Lepore
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Wow, what a fascinating read. My book club selected this book for August, and I personally think it’s the best selections we’ve had so far. Jill Lepore is a great writer. The story behind how Wonder Woman got started is a very interesting one, and it is so ingrained in the life and experiences of the creator, William Moulton Martson. Read this, you won’t be disappointed. Some points that stick out to me:
* We have come a LONG way since the turn of the 20th century as far as women’s rights go. We’re not THERE, having solved everything, but sometimes taking a look back at where we’ve come makes me appreciate the rights we have now.
* It’s funny to read in this book how comic books had so many critics express concern that they were bad for children. Today, a similar concern exists about the effects too much technology has on kids.
* I never really got into comic books, but after reading this book, I kind of want to…
All in all, I think this would make an excellent biopic.
